Alabama OG Anthony Steen to miss Sugar Bowl after shoulder surgery

Alabama will likely be without its All-SEC guard for the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma.

Senior Anthony Steen underwent shoulder surgery for a partially torn labrum after the regular season ended, according to a source.

Steen has started most of the last three seasons for Alabama and was honored by the Associated Press as an All-SEC second team offensive lineman.

It's uncertain when Steen suffered the injury or how much pain he played through, but getting the surgery done now instead of after the bowl game should give him a head start on NFL draft prep.

Kellen Williams has been pegged by local reports as Alabama's sixth man on the offensive line and could fill in for Steed. Redshirt freshman Alphonse Taylor was listed as Steen's backup at right guard on the pre-Auburn depth chart.
