Alex Ovechkin is one of those unique athletes who has been great for a long time. Since stepping into the NHL in 2005-06, he’s been one of the league’s best players and remains the greatest goal scorer of his era, or maybe ever. There aren’t a lot of athletes in the world that can relate to that.

One who can, though? Kobe Bryant.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend is hanging up his high-tops after the season, closing out a career that will go down as one of the best ever. With Ovechkin and the Capitals already in L.A. to take on the Kings Wednesday night, the Washington Capitals captain made a trip over to Staples Center a day early to take in the Lakers game against the Orlando Magic.

Bryant did not dress for the game, but Ovechkin and tennis star Novak Djokavic met up with him and fit a whole lot of athletic greatness into this photo:

But that wasn’t all for Ovechkin. The NHL star received an autographed jersey and pair of shoes from Kobe. He was so excited, he couldn’t even wait to open the box until he got home:

And here’s what Ovi got from Kobe:

No comment !!!its unbelievable to have this!!!

“To Alex, One of the All time greats!” - Kobe

Bryant has been giving a lot of gifts away during his farewell tour, hooking up fellow NBA players, other pro athletes and celebrities before he rides off into the sunset.

Both Bryant and Ovechkin will go down as some of the best athletes ever to play their respective sports, but it was pretty clear that Ovechkin was blown away by the gesture.

Djokovic, Bryant, Ovechkin. That's a lot of talent right there. (@washcaps)
