The New York Rangers have Henrik Lundqvist, the Washington Capitals have Alex Ovechkin. At their respective positions, they’re among the greats in the game today. However, even with all of their tremendous accolades and achievements combined while playing against each other in New York Sunday night, they could not come close to the most accomplished human being in Madison Square Garden.

That’s because there was a Beatle in the house. Sir Paul McCartney got some good seats and his very own puck apparently. He was very pleased to show it off to the Rangers fans when he got his moment on the big screen in MSG. Even after all these years, people still freak out when they see him. Listen to the crowd:

And apparently he was feeling the energy in the building, too. After New York jumped out to a 3-1 lead on a Dan Boyle power-play goal in the first period, McCartney was just like everyone else, waving his towel and giving a hearty “Woo!”

Even after the Rangers gave up four goals in the second period, Sir Paul remained undaunted.

I’m not sure how big a fan Sir Paul is of ice hockey, but I do know one of his guitars he has been using on tour for decades has a Red Wings sticker on it. Apparently back in 2010, a Penguins sticker was added to the guitar, too. Earlier this year, the Detroit Free Press had a fun piece about how the Red Wings sticker originally got there.

Now that McCartney has a puck and a rally towel, I guess he’s officially a hockey fan now. Welcome aboard, Sir Paul.
