Chiefs safety Eric Berry is resting with friends and family in Atlanta on Thanksgiving and is awaiting word on results from a battery of tests he underwent this week after a mass was found in his chest.

Berry's agent, Chad Speck, said the former first-round pick was flown immediately to Emory Hospital in Atlanta on Monday -- in transit while the team was conducting a briefing with the media -- to begin a series of tests aimed at diagnosing his situation.

The fear is that Berry has a form of lymphoma, but doctors informed him they did not know how they would attack the problem until they had a full assessment of the situation and had an exact diagnosis. Berry underwent screening Tuesday and Wednesday with the doctors being very aggressive in hopes of having a full diagnosis determined by early next week, and with the probing conducted before Thanksgiving.

Berry has remained in good spirits, Speck said, and doctors are enthused about his tremendous shape and conditioning, which help fortify his body in what could be a long recovery. Berry was placed on the non-football injury list by the Chiefs. The organization and Berry's medical team have acted proactively since the mass was discovered with the hope that early detection will aid his recovery.

Doctors informed Berry that they hope to have a course of treatment prescribed to him soon after all the results are in, and he will know much more about what he is up against by Monday or Tuesday.
