San Francisco 49ers corner Tarell Brown, who missed out on a $2 million workout bonus this past offseason because his former agent did not apprise him of the clause, is expected to have a new deal with the team this month, according to a league source. The deal is likely to be completed this month and would allow Brown to recoup the lost money in the form of upfront money and future salaries.

Brown did not participate in the team’s offseason program, preferring instead to stick with his own routine, but later said he would have been a part of that program had he known about the workout bonus in his deal. Brown later hired agent Joel Segal to represent him, and the sides have made serious progress towards a new deal.

Brown was a fifth-round pick in the 2007 draft and is making $925,000 this season, in addition to a $500,000 roster bonus. He is in the final year of his deal and would be an unrestricted free agent in 2014, but there is every expectation he will get a new contract well before then.
