The Titans have talked to several NFL teams regarding struggling receiver Kenny Britt, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, but have been attempting to get a third-round pick for him, or a combination of picks equal to a third rounder. Other clubs have found that price to be high, sources said, with them viewing Britt, given his off-field issues, expiring contract and lack of any recent production as valued more like a fifth-round pick.
Britt was selected by Tennessee in the first round in 2009, and has shined at times, but also has had repeated run-ins with the law and the Titans have surpassed early expectations this season despite him not being a factor at all in their offense. He has dropped balls and his confidence appears to be an issue, and several clubs believe he will be dealt prior to the trade deadline at the end of this month, with them expecting the asking price to drop -- particularly if Britt’s productivity does not increase.
Britt is in the final year of his rookie deal, and with a modest salary of $847,500, even teams with salary cap issues in need of a receiver could afford him. Several teams are viewing Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks as the best possible target in the trade market for receivers, but Britt and Cleveland’s Josh Gordon and Greg Little are other players who could change teams before the deadline, which comes on the Tuesday following Week 8.
