GLENDALE, Ariz. -- According to Bob Costas on NBC's Super Bowl XLIX pregame show, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell turned down an interview with the network.

This comes just two days after Goodell appeared in front of the media and pointed out that he makes himself available to the media "almost every day."

"I understand the obligation and my job to meet with the media. I don't know whether I meet with them at a press conference every week, but I'm available to the media almost every day of my job, professionally," Goodell said during his State of the NFL address Friday. "We try to make ourselves available on a very regular basis. It is my responsibility, it is my job, and I will do that."

Maybe there are some details here (subject matter, timing, etc.) we don't know about. But it appears to be a pretty contradictory stance here.

Don Van Natta Jr. of ESPN pointed out a similar issue following Goodell's press conference Friday.

More than anything it's just bizarre that Goodell wouldn't appear on a national stage before the biggest game of the season.
