More NFL offseason: League minicamp dates | Latest news, notes

Richard Sherman, who recently signed a $57 million contract extension, will also be on the cover of Madden 15. In theory, it's a well-earned honor; in reality, previous players to find themselves on the cover haven't performed up to their usual high standards.

Luckily, Sherman doesn't believe in curses. And former teammate Golden Tate, who signed with the Lions in the offseason, thinks Sherman deserves the recognition.

“I’m happy for him,” Tate told the Detroit Free Press. “I’m excited for him. He’s a tremendous talent. He works hard, he puts in the work. He’s the best cornerback, best defensive player out there right now. So he definitely deserves it."

And while Sherman wouldn't disagree, he has gone on record saying that he wants the entire secondary -- the Legion of Boom -- on the Madden cover.

“I’ve been trying to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, and EA has been fighting me,” Sherman said earlier this month. “So if everybody wants to start a petition to get the Legion of Boom on the cover, here it is, here’s an open invitation."

According to Seahawks.com, that's exactly what one fan has done. Jason Coiner's Change.org petition has more than 7,000 signatures.

“It’s a team sport and he wanted to share that with the team,” Coiner said via the team's website. “That’s an unselfish act and to me that needs to be pushed because not too many people are like that."
