This sounds about right. Former Chargers and Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman, who had previously dipped his toes in the professional wrestling waters, will join WWE, according to SBNation's Testudo Times.

The announcement that the man once known as "Lights Out" would be "joining the WWE family" came on the John Layfield and Michael Cole podcast, though Merriman's role isn't yet known.

Merriman, who starred at the University of Maryland and was taken 12th overall by the Chargers in the 2005 NFL Draft, appeared on WWE's Wrestlemania pre-match show last weekend. And in November 2013, he tried out at the WWE's Performance Center but wasn't offered a contract at the time.

But according to Rey Misterio, Jr., Merriman's on his way to becoming a "#futurewwesuperstar!"

Make of this what you will.
