The Giants traded for oft-injured linebacker Jon Beason last season and they thought enough of him to re-sign him Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala.

While Beason didn't grade out particularly well, according to ProFootballFocus.com, he was part of a Giants defense that ranked sixth in Football Outsiders' efficiency metric (third vs. the run, eighth vs. the pass).

The Panthers 2007 first-round pick played seven seasons in Carolina where he started 71 games and had four sacks and nine interceptions. But Beason played in just five games in 2011 and 2012, and was deemed expendable a month into last season. Now he returns to a Giants' D that started to play well right about the time he arrived in New York.
