Cleveland wide receiver Davone Bess will miss the final two games of the season after being placed on the non-football illness list, the Browns announced on Saturday. Bess missed practice on Thursday and Friday this week with non-injury related issues and had been listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets.
The Browns didn't specify why Bess was placed on the NFI list, however, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Bess has been dealing with a serious family matter for most of the season involving a relative in California.
Bess grew up in Oakland and according to the Plain-Dealer, he constantly worries about family members who still live in a rough section of the city.
The Browns placed Bess on the NFI list less than 24 hours after he posted a controversial picture of himself on Instagram where he's lighting something on his deck. Bess deleted the photo and his account just minutes after he posted the picture.
The 28-year-old will finish his season with 42 catches for 362 yards and two touchdowns. This season marks the first time in Bess' six-year career that he didn't reach at least 50 receptions or at least 500 yards receiving. Bess also had 14 drops on the year, a number that currently leads the NFL.
