Veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in April. On Saturday, he was a roster casualty. Coach Pete Carroll tweeted -- as CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported earlier -- that Winfield intends to retire.
Wishing Antoine Winfield the best in his decision to retire. He's a consummate pro and a great team player. We were lucky to have him!

The Seahawks felt comfortable enough with their young physical secondary to move forward without Winfield, who is 36 years old and entering his 15th season.
The Bills selected Winfield in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft. In his career, he has 27 interceptions, 11 fumble recoveries and 7.5 sacks.
