Mack Brown on Wednesday told CBS Sports he is not interested in becoming Texas’ next athletic director.

The longtime Longhorns coach is working as a college football analyst for ESPN and continues to be interested in a return to coaching if the right job comes along.

It is believed that Texas will make Brown part of its search committee to find a permanent athletic director to replace Steve Patterson, who resigned under pressure on Tuesday.

For now, Houston attorney and former Longhorns linebacking great Mike Perrin will serve as the school's interim AD.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told CBS Sports on Tuesday that he is not interested in the job.

At this time, the top candidates for the Texas opening (in no particular order) appear to be:

Oliver Luck (NCAA, executive vice president of regulatory affairs)

Greg Byrne (Arizona AD)

Tom Jurich (Louisville AD)

Jeff Long (Arkansas AD)

John Currie (Kansas State AD)

Chris Del Conte (TCU AD)

Mark Hollis (Michigan State AD)

Scott Stricklin (Mississippi State AD)
