Jeff Driskel , the starting quarterback in 21 games for Florida over the last three seasons, will be Louisiana Tech's starter under center this fall.

Driskel was picked by Bulldogs coach Skip Holtz as one of the player representatives for Conference USA media days and earlier this week confirmed the former Gators' spot on top of the depth chart.

"After spring practice we went through all the numbers and we met with all the players and all the quarterbacks on where they ranked and where they were," Holtz told the News-Star on Monday. "Just looking at the numbers from the whole body of work through spring practice, I felt Jeff Driskel gave us the best opportunity as a quarterback. That’s when we looked at him and said he’ll be the starter."

Driskel was battling Ryan Higgins throughout the spring and both players shared first-team reps during the spring game. Louisiana Tech opens the season on Sept. 5 against Southern and will face Kansas State and Mississippi State on the road in non-conference play.
