The gauntlet has been thrown down in Chicago, where Northern Illinois alumni are making a claim to cheer for the city's "big time college football team" following a 23-15 victory against Northwestern last week.
The full-page ad seen below was paid for by NIU alumni and ran in Friday's edition of the Chicago Tribune. The Huskies are not only calling out Northwestern but also Illinois; "Next? We are looking at you, Illini," the ad reads.
Sadly, NIU and Illinois are not scheduled to play in 2014 and will not be able to settle the score for Chicago as there are no bowl games set to feature Big Ten teams against MAC opponents -- though of NIU, Northwestern and Illinois, only one team is included in Jerry Palm's current bowl projections.
