Nick Saban proved a bearer of bad news on the first day of Alabama's fall camp Friday, announcing that three Crimson Tide defenders have been suspended for a violation of team rules.
Defensive linemen Brandon Ivory and Jarran Reed and linebacker Tim Williams were all absent from Friday morning's practice, al.com reported, with Saban saying that all three have the chance to rejoin the team but providing no timetable for when that might occur.
Reed was arrested on a DUI charge in July, one of two Tide players -- along with running back Kenyan Drake -- arrested last month.
A senior who started 12 games for the Tide in 2013 and made 24 tackles, the 308-pound Ivory has been expected to be the Tide's starting nose guard and defensive line anchor throughout the offseason. Both he and Reed -- a prized JUCO recruit entering his junior year -- started on the Tide's defensive line at the A-Day spring game.
Williams is a sophomore outside linebacker who appeared in seven games in 2013, making three tackles.
The suspensions weren't the only pieces of bad news for Tide fans delivered Friday by Saban, as he also confirmed that five-star athlete Bo Scarbrough will not be academically cleared in time to join the team for the fall season. Alabama is appealing Scarbrough's status and is hoping to have him approved by January, Saban said.
