Georgia announced that wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell suffered a right knee injury earlier this week while "running routes with teammates."

Mitchell underwent arthroscopic surgery on Thursday to repair damaged cartilage. While a full recovery is expected, Mitchell will miss "the first part" of preseason practices and no timetable has been set for his return.

This is a bummer for Mitchell, who has been battling back to full health since tearing his ACL in the season opener against Clemson in 2013. Georgia shut down Mitchell in the spring after a left leg injury, but Bulldogs fans have been hoping that the projected starter -- who was one of the team's top targets in 2011 and 2012 -- would be ready to go for the 2014 season opener against Clemson in Athens.
