UPDATE: TCU announces that Devonte Fields has been "separated" from the school "pending results of an investigation into allegations against him." Those allegations, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, include using a gun to threaten his ex-girlfriend.
TCU defensive end Devonte Fields is a suspect in a domestic disturbance case after an incident in Fort Worth early Sunday morning, authorities told Yahoo! Sports' Rand Getlin.
"I can confirm Devonte Fields is a suspect in a domestic disturbance call in Fort Worth, but we will have no further comment at this time," Sgt. Raymond Bush told Yahoo! Sports.
According to the Yahoo! report, an investigation into the nature of the disturbance is expected to be completed in the next few days. No charges have been filed at this time.
The news comes just days after Fields, a first team All-Big 12 selection as a freshman in 2012, was named the league's preseason defensive player of year. Fields appeared in just two games last season after a one-game suspension for team rules and a season-ending foot injury.
At Big 12 Media Days, TCU coach Gary Patterson said Monday he was "surprised" that Fields was the media's pick for preseason defensive player of the year. While Fields has dominated when on the field and healthy, the 2012 season was the last time -- and only time -- that has been the case during his time in Fort Worth.
