Alabama transfer Ricky Tarrant committed to Memphis on Monday afternoon -- during the second day of a two-day visit to the American Athletic Conference school.

"It’s a great city," Tarrant told 92.9 FM ESPN. "It's a great place to play basketball. The teammates I’ll be playing with, they’re great players. We're just a step away from the [NCAA] Tournament. I feel like it was a great decision."

Tarrant averaged a team-best 13.1 points this past season at Alabama but decided to transfer after Anthony Grant was removed as the school's head coach. The 6-foot-2 point guard was also considering Clemson. He'll be eligible next season and join a Memphis team that will return its top four scorers and add McDonald's All-American Dedric Lawson.
