Former Kansas guard Naadir Tharpe headed to D-League

By Jon Rothstein / CBS Sports

Naadir Tharpe's college basketball career is over.

The former Kansas point guard said Wednesday that he will opt for the NBA's D-League instead of transferring to another school for his final year of college eligibility.

"I didn't want to sit out," Tharpe said on Wednesday. "At this point, I'd rather just try the D-League instead of sitting out a year to play a year [in college]."

Tharpe averaged 8.5 points and 5.0 assists last season for the Jayhawks and spent three years in Lawrence.

Kansas went 25-10 last season and lost in the Round of 32 at the NCAA tournament to Stanford. The Jayhawks lose three starters in Tharpe, Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid but add two high-profile freshman in Kelly Oubre and Cliff Alexander.

Bill Self's squad will turn to sophomore Frank Mason and incoming freshman Devonte Graham to replace Tharpe at point guard.
