Southern Miss officials have identified Stephen F. Austin's Brad Underwood as their top choice to replace Donnie Tyndall, sources told CBSSports.com on Wednesday.

Tyndall left USM earlier this week to coach at Tennessee.

Underwood just completed his first season as a Division I head coach by going 32-3 overall and 18-0 in the Southland Conference. The Lumberjacks advanced to the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament by defeating VCU. Underwood won the 2014 Joe B. Hall Coach of the Year award, which is presented annually to the top first-year coach in college basketball.

Wichita State assistant Greg Heiar and former Mississippi State head coach Rick Stansbury are among the other possible candidates. Sources told CBSSports.com that both are interested in the job if Southern Miss can't lure Underwood.
