Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott could be facing up to 25 years in prison following two felony drug charges from his arrest on July 30. Scott was arrested after a traffic stop in Homer, Georgia. Police found 35.2 grams of marijuana and 10.9 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy/Molly street name). Georgia state law says the marijuana charge could carry up to 10 years in prison, while the MDMA charge could get him as many as 15 years in prison.

Scott may have to wait until during the season for his initial court date, due to the drugs being tested in an independent lab. This process could take months.

From Chris Vivlamore of AJC.com:

Mike Scott faces up to 25 years in prison on two felony drug charges stemming from his arrest last month.

An initial court date in the case could take several months to be placed on the calendar as the drugs have been set to an independent lab for processing, according to the Banks County Assistant District Attorney. That would mean an initial court appearance would come during the upcoming NBA season.

Scott was arrested, along with his younger brother, on July 30 after a traffic stop along Interstate 85 in the town of Homer. In the vehicle, police found 35.2 grams of marijuana and 10.9 grams of Schedule I drug MDMA, known as Molly. The charge on the MDMA carries a sentence of up to 15 years. The charge on the marijuana carries a sentence of up to 10 years, according to Georgia statutes.

At the time of the arrest, the Hawks issued a statement saying they were aware of the situation but would not comment out of respect for the legal process. Scott has played three years in the NBA, all of them for the Hawks, and is currently signed through the 2016-17 season. His $3.3 million contract for the 2016-17 season is non-guaranteed.
