More: Sterling banned for life | Latest updates | NBA news

As legal battles with banned and banished former Clippers owner Donald Sterling get set to unfold, documents have surfaced as to how exactly his wife Shelly Sterling reportedly had him declared mentally unable to function in decision-making prior to her arrangement with the NBA to sell the team. From the O.C. Register:

That shows that Sterling was unable to spell the word "World" backwards, and unable to accurately number a clock. The document designates that the physician noted Sterling is suffering from "cognitive impairment secondary to primary dementia Alzheimer's disease."

If that document holds up in court, there's just not going to be much Sterling can do to fight the sale of the team to Steve Ballmer, which was approved by the Board of Governors a week ago and which delayed an NBA meeting to execute termination of Sterling's ownership. Sterling lashed out in a letter earlier this week.
