One of the top prospects for this summer's amateur draft is North Carolina State shortstop Trea Turner, a dynamic speedster who is an impact player both at the plate and in the field. Here's a video of him beating out a bunt single on Sunday afternoon, courtesy of Baseball America's Clint Longenecker:
Come for the bunt single, stay for the ridiculous play on a ground ball back up the middle.
Longenecker says Turner was clocked at 3.42 seconds down the line on the bunt. For comparison's sake, one scout told Baseball America they had clocked Mike Trout at 3.65 seconds down to the line on a bunt single back when they ranked him as the Angels top prospect prior to 2011. Baseball America also said Billy Hamilton is regularly clocked at 3.35-3.4 seconds down the line, but he's a left-handed hitter.
So remember that name: Trea Turner. He is expected to be a first round pick and likely to take over the title of "fastest man in baseball."
