Tiger Woods withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open on the 12th hole of his first round with an apparent back injury. According to PGA Tour media, that's the official reason.

Woods was 2 over at the time and was grabbing at his lower back all throughout the round. He told a group of media before he left that he couldn't get warmed back up after a lengthy fog delay at Torrey Pines.

"It's just my glutes are shutting off," Woods said. "Then they don't activate and then ... it goes into my lower back. So, I tried to activate my glutes as best I could, in between, but they just never stayed activated."

I don't know what "glute activation" is but it doesn't sound that great. Woods said he first felt a twinge right before his round.

"Whenever we were standing there on the putting green to see if we were going to go play or not. And I tried to activate it before we went back out, but it just never did."

It's the eighth WD of Woods' career in 304 starts, but Woods has finished only two final rounds since the beginning of 2014, which is insane.

It got so bad that his playing partner on Thursday, Billy Horschel, even began picking up Woods' tees for him after his drives.

Woods' withdrawl makes a bummer of a day for golf fans, especially considering how much anticipation there was for 2015 in general. Obviously 2014 was a lost year for Woods and most folks though he would only have to deal with rust (and there was a lot of it) coming into this season.

It appears he'll also have to deal with an increasingly fragile body as well.
